Hiking, Biking, & Equestrian Trails
With 57,000 acres of land and water, much of which is open for public access, trail systems are increasing in popularity throughout the MWCD. Adventure seekers can enjoy 67 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, as well as water trails at MWCD lakes! Trail options vary to include natural surface hiking trails, improved surface hiking and biking trails, horse trails, and even water trails. Adventurers can enjoy scenic views, fresh air, and the opportunity to explore the diverse landscapes surrounding MWCD lakes.

- Hiking Trails – Explore miles of scenic hiking trails winding through forests, shorelines, and rolling hills across MWCD lakes and parks. Each trail invites visitors to explore nature, enjoy breathtaking views, and connect with the region’s rich natural beauty.
- Biking Trails – Enjoy a variety of biking trails that range from leisurely lakeside paths to challenging wooded routes. Riders can also enjoy a bike pump track at Tappan Lake Park!
- Equestrian Trails – The MWCD has cooperated with the Ohio Horseman’s Council to provide Equestrian Trails and Horse Camp at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. Click the trail map below for trails and visit Pleasant Hill Lake Park to view Horse Camp information.

MWCD Trails Master Plan
Building Trails. Connecting Communities. Inspiring Adventures.
The MWCD Trails Master Plan was approved by the MWCD Board of Directors in August 2025 and provides a 20-year strategy to develop 297 miles of trails on MWCD property. The Trails Master Plan ensures that future generations can explore, connect, and thrive in the natural beauty of the watershed.
BUCKEYE TRAIL
Did you know that the Buckeye Trail connects Leesville, Tappan, Clendening, Piedmont, and Seneca Lakes? The Buckeye Trail is a scenic hiking trail system that touches every corner of the state and is more than 1,440 miles long. In addition, Tappan Lake is the regional headquarters for the Buckeye Trail Association. Trail supporters routinely camp at the Buckeye Trail Association’s Century Barn near Tappan Lake and spend days, weekends, and weeks on trail maintenance activities.
