Partners in Watershed Management Grant Program

In an effort to support the work of agencies and groups involved in conservation programs, water quality issues, and flood reduction and mitigation projects, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) has developed the Partners in Watershed Management (PWM) Project Assistance Program. This program provides assistance to local communities, agencies and groups involved in projects and programs that support the conservation and flood control aspects of the Mission of the MWCD.

Best Management Practices

MWCD encourages the use of Best Management Practices (BMPs) in the design of stormwater and flood mitigation projects for the PWM grant program. BMPs are strategies, techniques, and structural controls that help prevent or reduce the negative environmental impacts of stormwater runoff. In rural and urban settings, BMPs play a vital role in managing water quality by controlling pollutants, promoting infiltration, and reducing erosion – ultimately protecting local waterways and ecosystems.

With guidance from a consultant, MWCD has developed a TECHNICAL MANUAL of BMPs for both rural and urban applications. This manual includes design guidance, implementation strategies, maintenance requirements, and potential challenges for each method. While it is not a substitute for site-specific engineering, the manual is intended as a resource to generate ideas and support engineers and stormwater professionals in developing practical applications for the PWM program.
