Join the Hunt for Geocaches at MWCD Lakes!

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt that uses GPS coordinates and online clues to guide participants to hidden “caches”. Caches can be placed in plain sight or obscured from view. Geocaching is fun for everyone: families, sightseers, outdoor adventurers, tech-lovers, and explorers. Currently, there are 3.3 million geocaches place around the world, including all MWCD lakes!

How many can you find?

Start Your Geocaching Adventure Today!

  • Visit www.geocaching.com or download the official Geocaching app.
  • Sign up for a free membership and select a cache handle.
  • Search for geocaches in your area or enter the cache coordinates for each of the “Wandering Through the Watershed” locations.
  • Navigate to the cache location and search the area to locate the cache.
  • Sign the physical log, obtain the code word, and complete the passport.
  • Trading swag is optional. Always leave something if you take something.
  • Return the cache to its original location.
  • Record your find on the app or at geocaching.com.

How to Place a Geocache on MWCD Lands

The MWCD welcomes geocachers to our lakes and lands in keeping with the mission to provide opportunities for safe recreational activities. All caches placed on our parks must adhere to the Geocaching.com requirements and guidelines along with the MWCD Geocache policies.
