2015 Nutrient Management & Water Quality Project - Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District
General

Problem Description

The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has requested financial assistance to collect soil samples, plant tissue samples, and water samples from 25 agricultural crop fields in Muskingum County.  The project will analyze soil fertility levels, biological activity in the soil, nutrient levels in growing crops, and water quality at tile outlets.  The goal of the project is to provide valuable information to producers on proper nutrient management practices.

Solution Description

The project goal is to analyze data on soils, plants, and water at agricultural sites to determine proper nutrient management.  Proper nutrient management results in reduced nutrient applications and a reduction in nutrient runoff, which adversely affects water quality.

This project promotes soil conservation, nutrient management, and improved water quality.  This project aligns well with MWCD's mission and authorities granted within the Amendment to the Official Plan.
