2011 Camp Tippecanoe Waste Water Treatment Plant
General
Problem Description
The YMCA of Central Stark County has operated a resident camp on the shores of Clendening Lake since 1958. In 2005, the YMCA received a notice from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency that the current wastewater treatment plant needed to be replaced. The existing system of concrete tanks and sand filters is no longer treating effluent as designed.
Solution Description
A new Waste Water Treatment Plant needs to be installed at Camp Tippecanoe that is compliant with Ohio EPA standards, which will benefit campers, staff and ultimately all visitors of Clendening Lake.
An engineering firm was engaged to provide technical evaluation during the design phase, and a treatment plant design has been proposed.
Total project cost: $249,000
Requested Grant: $ 25,000
Awarded Grant: $ 25,000
Grant Funding
A new access road will be constructed, electricity will be brought to the site and a new Advantex treatment system will be designed, installed and maintained. A NPDES permit will also be required by the OEPA.
Location Information
Camp Tippecanoe is located in Washington Township, Harrison County. The proposed plant is to be located in the general area of the existing plant, near the shore of Clendening Lake.
