A New Trail Opens at Atwood Lake Park
April 18, 2022
A new trail is complete at Atwood Lake Park! The Cemetery Bay Trail will provide a connection from the trailhead parking lot located on SR 542 to the existing trails within Atwood Lake Park for a total of 6.54 miles inside the park. This trail offers several scenic lake views to some remote portions of the park and features 400 feet of boardwalks that cross environmentally sensitive areas. The crushed limestone surface is great for hikers, bikers, runners, and bird watchers.
“Any time we survey our guests, the need for more trails always rises to the top,” said Adria Bergeron, MWCD Director of Marketing and Communications. “The MWCD is prioritizing trail improvement and development and recently added two new positions to see this vision come to life. This new $635,000 trail is a beautiful addition to the existing trail system located at Atwood Lake Park.”
“MWCD has a large number of trail users who enjoy the trails we currently have throughout the seasons. I believe improvements and expansion of our current system is something that is much needed, and we are making significant investments to make this happen,” said Dylan Sayre, MWCD Trails Coordinator. “I am excited to work alongside Logan Moon, MWCD Trails Technician to make our trails a focal point of parks and surrounding areas.”
The Public is invited to join us for the Cemetery Bay Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, April 23 at 1pm. All participants are encouraged to park at Atwood Lake Park’s amphitheater area and then hike the 1.34-mile trail to the brand-new Big Spring Trailhead, where the ribbon cutting will take place. Signs will be placed along the trail to mark the way. The ceremony will begin at 1pm sharp, so make sure to plan enough time to hike the 1.34 miles to the trailhead. Limited parking is available at the trailhead and will be reserved for accessibility needs. To request a parking spot at the trailhead, please call 330-343-6647 by Friday, April 22.
