Division of Watercraft, MWCD host public meeting June 17 to discuss Charles Mill Lake

May 13, 2011

COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft in coordination with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) will hold a public forum on Friday, June 17th to discuss the possible revision of watercraft regulations and lake management plans for Charles Mill Lake located near Mansfield.

The Charles Mill Lake waterway management public forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 17th at the Pleasant Hill Activity Center located at 3431 State Route 95 near Perrysville, Ohio.

No rule changes have been made to the current 10-horsepower limit for boat motors operated on the lake, which remains in effect for 2011 and will be enforced by watercraft officers and MWCD rangers, according to the Division of Watercraft and MWCD.

ODNR and MWCD are considering several management strategies for the lake and seeking input from area residents, boaters, and others who utilize the lake as part of the management planning process. Public comments and recommendations, along with public safety, recreational opportunities, regional economics and environmental factors are some of the key components considered during the development of a lakewide management plan.

The public forum provides an opportunity for area residents and lake users to offer suggestions regarding the current and future management of the lake. Written comments will also be accepted.  Additional opportunities for public input will be provided prior to the implementation of any regulatory changes.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
