![]() Ohio law provides for conservancy districts to levy assessments for improvements and maintenance. It is a means by which property owners share fairly in the costs involved to safeguard the area by reducing flooding and maintaining the dams and reservoirs. To date, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is the only active conservancy district in the state that has not required an assessment. The assessment will require a small investment from owners of all residential and agricultural parcels of property in the 18-county jurisdiction of the MWCD. The average estimated cost per residential and agricultural parcel in the MWCD region will be $12 per year. Multiple adjacent parcels under the same ownership will be combined into one parcel for assessment purposes. Other types of parcels will be assessed at higher rates (up to $132 per acre) based on the greater amounts of impervious area and runoff from these properties. Collection is scheduled to begin in 2008. |
