The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) owns 54,000 acres of land and water in the Muskingum River Watershed, most of which is open to public access.
Given the rural setting of the MWCD reservoirs behind the dams - which offer flood reduction and water conservation benefits - outdoor recreation thrives.
One of the more popular activities at the MWCD reservoirs is hunting. Through a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR), ODNR is responsible for all fish and wildlife management on Conservancy District lands and lakes. All hunting and fishing rules, regulations and license requirements of the State of Ohio apply.
The MWCD is an active partner with ODNR's Division of Wildlife and routinely meets with its staff members to discuss items of shared concern. Annual reports about wildlife activities at the reservoirs are provided to the MWCD by the Division of Wildlife.
The MWCD produces brochure maps that detail the general areas at its reservoirs that are open for public access for hunting. They can be found on this website for easy download, printing and use. Specialized maps for more detail at reservoir locations are available for a fee from the MWCD main office at 1319 3rd St. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, by calling toll-free at (877) 363-8500, or by sending an e-mail.
