Through the program, nearly 1,200 parcels of property are leased from the MWCD by private homeowners. Under the terms of the cottage site program, individuals own structures (homes) on ground leased to them by the MWCD.
Cottage sites are available at Atwood, Charles Mill, Leesville, Piedmont, Pleasant Hill, Seneca, Tappan and Wills Creek reservoirs. New leases enacted are 30 years and 40 years in length. In most cases, cottages are located in designated home site areas at the reservoirs.
Lessees are responsible for the sales of the cottages and, upon transfer, the MWCD enters into the leases with the new owners.
