Celebrate Earth Day with MWCD

Around the world, April 22 is recognized as Earth Day and annually promotes environmental action.  The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is dedicated to conservation efforts and is excited to sponsor a series of Earth Day Clean-ups at each of the five major lake parks, including Atwood and Tappan Lake Parks.  In response to numerous offers from the community to assist in keeping the parks clean, everyone is invited to help with the MWCD’s spring cleaning effort on land and water.  The Earth Day Clean-ups are open to people who can walk or drive through the campgrounds and public access areas, or anyone who has a boat and is willing to cruise the lake searching for litter.

Tappan Lake

Tappan Lake Park’s Earth Day Clean-up will be a part of the Earth Day Fest on Saturday, April 23.  Stop by the Activity Center between 10am and noon to pick up trash bags, gloves, and maps.  Then, head out into the park to fill the trash bags with litter before dropping-off the full trash bags at designated areas.  At 1:00pm, return to the Activity Center for fun, refreshments, and a big thank you.  The Earth Day Fest will also include a morning Nature Hike, Beekeeper Talk, and Virtual Watershed Sandbox demonstration with the Harrison County Soil & Water Conservation District.

An Arbor Day Tree Planting will also take place on Saturday, April 30 at Tappan Lake Park.  Join the MWCD Forestry staff, Tappan Park Staff, and others to plant a variety of hardwoods and blueberry bushes.  No experience necessary!  Just bring your energy and garden gloves, trees and planting equipment will be provided.  The planting area is located off of Township Road 288.  Follow the event signs from the park to the planting site.  Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged.
