No horsepower limit changes for Charles Mill Lake

October 13, 2011

COLUMBUS - No changes will be made to the current horsepower limit for boats operating on Charles Mill Lake near Mansfield. Charles Mill Lake, located in Ashland and Richland counties, is a Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) reservoir and is managed for recreation in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

ODNR and MWCD announced today (Oct. 13, 2011) that the horsepower limit of 10 horsepower will remain in effect.

A petition presented last year to the Division of Watercraft and the MWCD requested that the horsepower limit on Charles MIll Lake be increased to 30 hp.

Three public hearings were held to accept comments and suggestions, and to discuss proposed alternate solutions. However, a consensus could not be achieved on either the original petition request or an alternate solution.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the beneft of all. Visit the ODNR website at www.ohiodnr.com. Information about Charles Mill Lake is available on the MWCD website at www.mwcd.org.
