Charles Mill Lake boating management plans subject of open house meeting Sept. 10
COLUMBUS - The Ohio Department of Natural Resoures' (ODNR) Division of Watercraft in coordination with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) will host an open house on Saturday, September 10th in an effort to educate lake users and community members on two proposed lake management plans for Charles Mill Lake in Ashland and Richland counties.
After considering public input gathered over the past year, ODNR and MWCD have developed two potential management strategies for the lake. One option is to continue with the current waterway management plan which includes a ten (10) horsepower limit for watercraft operated on the lake. The second option would be to allow watercraft powered by more than 10 horsepower to access the lake, provided that they only operate at idle speed.
Unlike previous forums, there are no plans for a formal presentation or group discussion of the proposals. The open house will give lake users and area residents an opportunity to submit written comments, ask questions and discuss lake issues with representatives from ODNR and MWCD.
Public comments and recommendations, along with public safety, recreational opportunities, regional economics and environmental factors are some of the key components considered during the development of a lake management plan.
The Charles Mill Lake management open house is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 10th at The Cabin Restaurant located at 2106 State Route 603, Ashland.
