MWCD to host free kayak classes at Seneca, Charles Mill lakes
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) will host two free “Quick Start Your Kayak” classes at Charles Mill and Seneca lakes.
The Seneca class is planned Saturday, Oct. 9, from noon to 3 p.m. at Seneca Lake Park.
The class at Charles Mill Lake Park is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 23, from noon to 3 p.m.
Quick Start provides an introduction to paddling a kayak. Participants are presented with basic information on dressing, paddling safety, potential hazards and simple rescues. A minimal paddle skill set is presented and practiced, allowing participants to safely and comfortably maneuver on still water.
The class is taught by MWCD lake rangers on a brief kayak trip, and the kayaks and all safety equipment are supplied to participants.
The class is free, but space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to reserve a seat for either session, contact Stacie Stein at the MWCD main office by calling toll-free (877) 363-8500 Ext. 2201, or send an e-mail to sstein@mwcd.org.
