MWCD Shoreline Projects

The MWCD’s series of dams and reservoirs was created for flood control and reduction. Protecting flood reduction benefits and water quality is important to the overall health of the reservoir system, while maintaining maximum flood storage capacity is crucial to the effectiveness of the system.

One aspect of reservoir management is controlling shoreline erosion. As time passes, the reservoirs’ shorelines experience erosion, lessening the amount of water the reservoir can hold. The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District identified nearly 500 locations on our reservoirs that would benefit from shoreline protection. The locations were prioritized based on numerous factors and completed each year throughout the district.
